Medical Associates accepts most insurance plans, and, for your convenience, we will bill your insurance company regardless of whether or not we are a participating provider. We participate with most Anthem of Virginia policies, Cigna, Medicare, Southern Health, United Healthcare, Aetna, Piedmont Community Health Plan, Optima and Tricare.

Please bring your insurance card with you to your scheduled appointment. Our participation with insurance providers requires us to ask to see your insurance card and to collect any co-payments at the time of each visit. If you do not have a co-pay specified on your card, we require a $15.00 office payment at the time of service.

To determine whether or not we participate in your particular insurance plan, you may call the customer service number on your insurance card. It is the patient’s responsibility to be aware of the specific details, particularly for routine services, regarding their own insurance coverage. We understand this can sometimes be confusing, so please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about your insurance coverage.

We currently do not accept new Medicaid patients to our Internal Medicine practice (adult primary care); however, we may accept Medicaid patients for select specialties. Medicaid patients seeking adult specialty care offered by our practice should please call to see if there is an opening available.

Payment Options

We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and personal checks.


We encourage patients to keep a credit card on file to make the checkout process easier, faster, and more efficient. You will no longer receive statements from us, but you will continue to receive your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance carrier once your claim has been processed, detailing the charges and payments made on your behalf.

At check-in we will:

  • scan the credit card of your choice, including your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) card

After your insurance has paid their portion, we will:

  • notify you via email of the balance owed
  • charge the balance owed to your card on file
  • email a receipt for the charge

Your credit card information will always be fully protected by our off-site, card-processing partner Elavon, and not on our computers, as required by industry standards (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard – PCI-DSS).
