Welcome to Internal Medicine, a division of Medical Associates of Central Virginia.
Our Internal Medicine team includes board certified Internal Medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and dedicated supporting staff. We consider it a privilege to serve you and strive to provide you with up-to-date, prompt care in a team-oriented, friendly, compassionate atmosphere.
Our goal is to provide you with a clear understanding of your current health and wellness and to assist you in taking a preventive care approach to your health. We take pride in caring for our patients for life and in being able to assist in rare or common, simple or complex medical issues. When needed, we will coordinate care with other specialists to help manage our patients’ conditions.
In addition to treating our patients in our office, our Internists offer care to our patients who are confined to nursing homes, and our Hospitalist Division cares for our patients should they become hospitalized.
WHAT IS INTERNAL MEDICINE?
Internal Medicine is the specialty of medicine that is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases.
Internists devote at least three years of their seven or more years of medical training to studying adult diseases and how to prevent, diagnose, and treat them. Internists often serve as primary care physicians, but they differ from family physicians, family practitioners, or general practitioners in that their training is concentrated on adults rather than on pediatrics, obstetrics, and surgery, which may be included in the training of those other disciplines.
